Endermen are harmed by water which will make them teleport away and stop them from chasing you, they don't burn in daylight but they will leave by morning, get yourself in a space with a roof directly above you or two block high space, the Enderman can't hit you this way because they can't fit in the space, they are too tall, this way you can hit them all you want, make sure your not directly beside them through, make it two blocks away at least.
